Madelaine Rose Walker

Madelaine-Rose Walker is a Cornish hand embroidery artist whose practice reinterprets the folklore, myths and storytelling traditions of Cornwall through contemporary textile art. Working predominantly with hand embroidery, she combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative materials, processes and techniques to create richly textured works that bridge heritage and modern expression.

A First Class graduate of the Royal School of Needlework, Madelaine-Rose has been recognised for both technical excellence and creative innovation. In 2025, she received the Embroiderers' Guild and Embroidery Magazine Design and Innovation Associate Award, alongside second place in the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery (Student Fashion category) and the Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors Award for a Contemporary Approach to Hand Embroidery.

Inspired by Cornwall's landscapes, coastal environment and rich folklore, Madelaine-Rose explores how traditional narratives can be retold through contemporary textile practice. Her work transforms historical tales into tactile, immersive embroidered pieces that invite viewers to reconsider the relationship between craft, memory and cultural identity.

Alongside her creative practice, Madelaine-Rose offers hand embroidery and experimental textile workshops for all abilities. Her courses encourage participants to step away from rigid rules and embrace playful, intuitive making through stitch. Using a wide variety of threads, fabrics, found materials and unexpected textures, participants are invited to experiment freely, build confidence and discover their own creative voice in a relaxed and inspiring environment.
