Jasmine Hornby, Ceramic Artist

Jasmine Hornby is a Cornish ceramic artist creating one of a kind hand-built slipware pieces in terracotta.

Originally trained in costume design, she found herself less drawn to sewing and more to the sculptural possibilities of making. Much of her time at university was spent creating plaster casts and moulds for elaborate headpieces and theatrical forms - an early indication of her fascination with shape, texture and three-dimensional storytelling.

After working in the film & television industry for several years, coming back to Cornwall was central to Jasmine's practice, which is rooted in a love of form, character and playful experimentation. Her cowboy vases explore individuality, humour and imperfection, celebrating the expressive qualities that emerge through hand-building.

Working with traditional terracotta slipware techniques, she enjoys the contrast of using a material historically associated with everyday use items to create contemporary sculptural forms. Each piece is built slowly and intuitively, embracing the marks, quirks and irregularities that ensure no two works are ever the same.

In a world increasingly shaped by automation and artificial intelligence, Jasmine is interested in the magic of objects that bear the unmistakable traces of human hands. Her work celebrates the value of making slowly and thoughtfully; creating pieces that feel personal, playful and entirely unique.
